It’s not rare for artists to have evolving interests and methods, nor is it unique for buildings and neighborhoods in Denver to shift and find different purposes. Brett Matarazzo comes from a traditional design background, but his environmental beliefs lead him to work with more unique methods and materials, including using Reclaimed wood as his canvas. The pieces he has created for Avanti F&B, including the upstairs “Wolf Bar” reflect this, but they also include elements of and comment on the nature of the LoHi neighborhood. In some of his pieces, Matarozzo was able to incorporate reclaimed 100 year old 2x5s and reclaimed white cedar panels from old LoHi buildings.
The Wolf Bar itself is a meditation on the changes of Denver’s near-urban neighborhoods—“reusing its past and playfully respecting the social hunger for its future.”
